Kaginawa

It is said that Ninjas always had 6 tools with them on their missions that were called "Shinobi Rokugu (EјZ) " . The tools used are categorized below. " Kaginawa () " a climbing tool, " Inro () " a small box in which some medicine is put, " Sekihitsu (ΕM) " a pen made of charcoal or clay, " Sanjaku Tenugui (Oڎʂ) " a cotton towel with a length of 910mm, "Hidane (Ύ) " a kindling and " Amigasa (҂݊}) " a braided straw hat.
They were not specific equipment for ninjas, but rather casual outfits which ordinary travelers carried in that age. Ninjas couldnft carry a lot of items with them on their missions so they didnft wear much but made full use of what they wore.
Here, I am going describe about the climbing tool "Kaginawa" .

"Kaginawa" which was able to be used for many purposes

Kaginawa was basically a tool for climbing up to high places. Its construction was quite simple, on the end of a long rope with a length of about 5 m, an iron hook was attached. Ninjas threw the hook onto a high point and made it catch on something, then, they climbed up to their destination along the rope. Sometimes ninjas used a sickle in place of a hook. Not only that, ninjas made use of kaginawa in various ways. For instance, kaginawa were able to be used as a weapon if ninja swung them at someone. Ninjas could also tie something up with the rope, like their enemies or a hostile boat to a pier giving the ninja some time to escape. Kaginawa was also able to be used in the following way. A ninja could wait for his enemy. With a kaginawa, he could hook the top of the kaginawa on the lower part of a doorway and stretch the rope tight. When the enemy went to enter the room, they would of course stumble, allowing the ninja to attack them with their sword. With the many varied uses that have been mentioned here, itfs easy to see whey ninja made kaginawa one of the necessary tools.
